چکیده
Although there is still no killer application identified for Mobile and Intelligent Agents, today Agent technology is considered to form an important part of flexible middleware platforms. A main issue in this context is the integration of Mobile and Intelligent Agent Technology, as well as Distributed Object Technology, e.g., the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). This is particularly reflected by emerging standards for agent systems within the Object Management Group (OMG) and the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA). This paper provides an overview of the Grasshopper Agent platform, which is the first platform conforming to OMG and FIPA agent standards. The initial version of Grasshopper has been developed by GMD FOKUS and IKV++ in 1997/98. The newest version forms today the basis for several internal research projects within the European CLIMATE initiative for implementing agent-based services in the context of Intelligent Networks, mobile communications, telecommunications management, and active networking.

Integrating MASIF and FIPA Standards for Agent and Agent System Interoperability
In order to use agent technology for implementing complex software systems, widely available software platforms are as crucial as methods to support their interoperability. The paper discusses the concepts of a system that combines the benefits of the two most accepted standards in the agent world, namely FIPA and MASIF, into a platform that permits the interaction as well as migration of agent...
متن کاملFrom Interoperability to Cooperation: Building Intelligent Agents on Middleware
As agent technologies are increasingly being involved in telecommunication-related applications, the need for open standards is becoming critical. During the past years, different scientific communities gave birth to different standardization actions, such as the Foundation for Physical Intelligent Agents (FIPA) and the Object Management Group’s MASIF (Mobile Agent System Interoperability Facil...
متن کاملCORBA Solutions for Interoperability in Mobile Agent Environments
The Mobile Agent (MA) paradigm proposes several attractive solutions to deal with the problems of networkcentric programming. Despite the availability of several MA platforms, there are still only a few MA-based distributed services. The paper claims that the lack of interoperability is one of the major obstacles to the largescale diffusion of the MA paradigm, and discusses solutions to permit ...
متن کاملMiddleware services for interoperability in open mobile agent systems
Despite the design and implementation of several mobile agent (MA) platforms, widely diffused services based on the MA programming paradigm are still lacking. Apart from the security challenges imposed by the MA technology, the paper claims that interoperability between MAs, legacy systems and heterogeneous MA platforms is a major obstacle to the MA diffusion. The paper discusses solutions to p...
متن کاملMobile Agent Interoperability Revisited
A major setback for mobile agent technology is – apart from a frequently cited absence of appropriate security mechanisms – a lack of interoperability between systems for mobile agents, which prevents mobile agents from reaching " critical mass " for widespread application. Interoperability is required where systems of different vendors come into contact with each other. More precisely, two mob...
